Traffic & Vehicle Delineation

Guide vehicle movement, define temporary traffic routes and separate low-speed traffic from work areas with systems suited to different site, handling, visibility and layout requirements.

Traffic Delineation for Real Site Conditions

From roadworks and internal access routes to temporary traffic changes and low-speed work areas, see where vehicle delineation systems are commonly used.

PROJECT PLANNING

Plan the Traffic Route Before Choosing a System

Before comparing systems, establish how vehicles need to move, what the route is separating and the site conditions the delineation needs to accommodate.

01 — Where do vehicles need to go?

Map the intended traffic path, including entries, exits, lane changes, turns, crossings and any temporary diversions or access points.

02 — What is the traffic being separated from?

Identify work areas, pedestrians, plant, opposing traffic or restricted zones. This helps determine whether ordinary delineation is sufficient or another control is required.

03 — What vehicles and speeds are involved?

Consider expected vehicle types, operating speeds and movement patterns, including turning, reversing, queuing and interactions with site plant.

04 — What are the site conditions?

Review the surface, available width, visibility, lighting, drainage and space for the planned delineator run.

05 — What Traffic-Management Requirements Apply?

Confirm any traffic-management plan, road-authority, site-specific or applicable standards requirements before finalising the layout.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

What Influences the Right Setup on Site?

Traffic speed, route geometry, required visibility, handling needs and whether the layout is exposed or frequently changing will help determine which delineation system is suitable.

01

Straight or Changing Route?

Is the traffic path mostly straight, or does it need to follow corners, curves, lane shifts or changing directions?

02

High Mass or Easy Handling?

Some sites need greater filled mass and site presence. Others need lighter systems that are easier to deploy and reposition.

03

Fencing, Visibility & Accessories?

Do you need hazard lights, pole signage, mesh or other supported accessories to make the temporary traffic layout clearer?

04

Redirective Protection, or just Delineation?

Is clear visual guidance sufficient, or does the application require a tested system designed to contain and redirect vehicles?

Compare Traffic Delineation Systems

Compare systems relevant to this application by filled mass, route flexibility, handling and accessory support. If tested vehicle containment is required, use a redirective system rather than an ordinary delineator.

Aqua Stop

Higher-mass / heavy-duty traffic delineation

Aqua Stop suits traffic delineation where greater filled mass and site presence are useful, particularly for longer runs, roadworks and more exposed temporary traffic layouts.

✓ Greater filled mass and site presence
✓ Long-run and exposed-site delineation
✓ Signs, lights and accessory provisions supported

Traffic & Vehicle Delineation FAQs

Quick answers to common questions about planning temporary traffic delineation, choosing suitable systems and preparing for a project.

What is the difference between traffic delineation and redirective vehicle protection?

Traffic delineators provide visible guidance and separation for suitable traffic environments; they are not automatically designed to contain or redirect an impacting vehicle. Where tested containment is required, use a purpose-designed redirective system such as SHIELD I.

Can water-filled delineators be used on roadworks?

They can suit appropriate roadwork and traffic-control applications, but the required device and configuration depend on the traffic-management plan, road-authority requirements and site conditions. Confirm that ordinary delineation is appropriate before selecting the system.

Which systems suit changing or curved traffic layouts?

The KI Series is suited to flexible connected low-speed layouts that need to follow corners or changing directions. TM-600 can also suit more flexible general-purpose layouts, while TM-700 is stronger for straight continuous runs.

How do I calculate how many delineators I need?

Start with the total length of each delineation run, then compare it with the effective connected length of the product being considered. Allow for corners, openings and layout changes, and confirm quantities for longer or more complex projects before ordering.

What information should I provide for a project quote?

Useful information includes the application, approximate run length or quantity, vehicle types and speed environment, whether the layout is straight or changing, any accessory requirements, relevant site conditions, and delivery location or timing.
